Queen Victoria Building (QVB)
Sunday, September 21, 2008

Queen Victoria Building known as QVB and has been described by Pierre Cardin as "the most beautiful shopping centre in the world" is another famous attraction that we visited in Sydney, Australia. The dominant feature is the mighty centre dome, consisting of an inner glass dome and an exterior copper- sheathed dome. Glorious stained glass windows and splendid architecture endure throughout the building and an original 19th century staircase sits alongside the dome.

Lots of people go there to shop, relax while having some drinks at the coffee shops or just look around and amazed at the wonderful building designed by George McRae completed in 1898. The Romanesque Revival architecture building is 190 metres long by 30 wide. Another great interior that caught my attention are the big clocks hanging at the center of the building. The Great Australian Clock, designed and made by Chris Cook, weighs four tonnes and stands ten metres tall.

Because we didn't know how to get there, we took the bus where most of the passengers were students. We found out that we can save almost half if we took the train. When we visited other Sydney attractions, we passed the QVB many times and went inside whenever we had time or just went there to use the bathroom.
