Crazy house in Dalat, Vietnam
Saturday, July 19, 2008

From the hotel near Dalat market, we walked again going to the Crazy house. It is called a Crazy house. When you see it you'd know why! When you stand in front of its entrance, it is easy to know why. The house is indeed strange! Crazy house is one of the most famous attractions in Dalat, Vietnam. Formally called as Hang Nga Villa, Crazy house was built by a Vietnamese architect, Dr. Hang Viet Nga who graduated at the Architecture University of Moscow and a daughter of Truong Chinh, the formerly President of Vietnam in the 1980s.

The outside of the building looks like a tree with trunks and branches built to look like they are growing along the walls. Crazy house is actually a guesthouse. All the rooms have a particular animal and insects theme like bear, kangaroo, tiger, ant, etc. There are no corners in any of the rooms. They are all rounded with no particular shape. Doors are shaped to suit the wall openings, and they often turn out like a Steiner door.
Small ponds and mushroom statues, giraffes and spiders also adorn the outside of the house which makes the Crazy house looks like a fairy tale house.
